This beautiful female Scarce Chaser, Libellula fulva was found and photographed by Barry Reed at Holycross Lake in Amwell NR on 5 June 2015.
This is a new species of dragonfly for Hertfordshire, the third in as many years.
Herts Dragonfly Recorder - Roy Woodward, said - 'This species has been spreading in the UK recently and was seen a couple of years ago, not far from the Hertfordshire border, on the upper reaches of the Lea in Bedfordshire. The Amwell record may be a one off, but there is certainly a possibility that there are more to be discovered somewhere on the River Lea - either way, it is a reminder that dragonflies, like birds, can turn up where they aren't expected.'
