Our autumn meeting was held at Woolmer Green Village hall on Saturday 17 October 2015. With a great turnout and four excellent speakers, covering fish, mammals, invertebrates and wildlife in Panshanger Park, there was something for everyone.
Peter Tallantire chaired the opening session, introducing the speakers.
Phil Belfield, from the Environment Agency and our County Fish Recorder, told us about the Fish of Hertfordshire and their ecology.
Joe Gray, Hertfordshire bugs recorder introduced the new Herts Invertebrate Project.
Chantal Helm, University of Hertfordshire updated us on progress with the Hertfordshire Mammal, Amphibian and Reptile Atlas.
Jennifer Gilbert, HMWT People and Wildlife Officer, discussed Panshanger Park its history and wildlife, what has happened at Panshanger over the past 18 months and what the future holds.
Presentation of the HNHS 1875 Awards for 2015 were made to Chris Dee and Trevor James.
During the break for refreshments everyone was able to meet some of our Hertfordshire County Wildlife Recorders who were there to answer questions about recording and monitoring in the county.
The 140th HNHS Annual General Meeting was held after the tea break- details.
There were over 70 members present at the AGM as Trevor James, the chairman for 2014-5, introduced the review of the year. Highlights included publication of our latest book - Birds of Hertfordshire - and the launch of the countywide mammals, amphibians and reptiles survey and atlas. Our Treasurer, Peter Tallantire, introduced the summary of accounts for 2014-15. He said the finances were healthy and that membership was stable so annual membership subscriptions would remain unchanged.
Two members of the management committee stepped down Stuart Warrington and Steve Chilton, everyone thanked them for their hard work. Trevor James's term as Chairman ended at the AGM.
