The Dragonflies and Damselflies of Hertfordshire

Dragonflies and Damselflies of Hertfordshire will be published by HNHS on 23 April.

The book will cover all 19 species breeding in the county, with distribution maps and flight charts based on the results of the six-year countywide survey carried out by the Herts Dragonfly Group, all rare migrants recorded since 1975 with colour photos and a history of all species recorded in Hertfordshire from 1835-2006.

'Where to watch dragonflies' gives details of all sites with 14 or more breeding species, the 'Top 10' sites to visit in Herts with colour photos and access maps and a gazetteer of all sites surveyed.

At 140 pages 145 x 170mm the book will be printed in colour with photographs.

The book will be approx 500 pages, A4 format, hardbound and illustrated in colour throughout. Written by Colin Plant and members of the Herts Moth Group, it will include all the 1523 species of both macro- and micro-moths recorded in Hertfordshire. The species accounts will include 1248 distribution maps with colour to distinguish old and new records, analysis of status, conservation, food plants, flight periods and 595 flight charts. Introductory chapters cover geology, habitats, conservation management and a Hertfordshire Red Data List.
